A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

A sterling silver and hand-engraved cigarette case. This wonderful, and unique cigarette case, and quite possible the ultimate accessories for any dog lover, and in particular the owners of Weimaraner’s! It has been beautifully with engine turning on both sides. The lid has a sprung push button clasp to open it. Being a larger size case, it will still not hold today's cigarettes vertically in the case, but they will fit at an angle. It is, however, a perfect fit for mini cigars, or even joints, and great to store business cards or credit cards.

ON the front side of the case is a stunning, hand-engraved portrait of a beloved dog. With their silvery coats and piercing eyes, Weimaraner’s—often called the "Gray Ghost"—are the definition of canine elegance. Originating in 19th-century Germany’s Weimar region, these dogs first earned their keep tracking formidable prey like bears, boars, and deer. As the years passed, their natural athleticism and sharp instincts turned them into all-purpose gun-dogs, just as skilled at flushing birds as they were at chasing down big game.

The piece was made in Birmingham, England by A Wilcox. Wilcox operated his business from 1930 until 1952 and actually specialised in making this type of case. Needless to say the quality is superb. The catch is as good as the day it was made and the hidden piano hinge is also tight and opens/closes perfectly. Below the hallmark is a hand-engraved retail signature of Robinson & Co., The Square Shrewsbury. The advertised as a Jeweller, Silversmith, Optician, Engraver & Cutler. They both produced their own goods, and retailed others, such as cases like this. They also had a London location on Bishopsgate.

The condition of the piece is excellent throughout. There is no damage to the engraving, no damage to the corners, or any dents to the body. This is very rare for a cigarette case that was intended for extensive use every day. It was cherished by whomever received it, and as a result of which it is presented today in immaculate condition.

Made in England in 1938
