A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

the panorama.

He remained.Trapped in that enormous room,
unmistakably familiar in feeling yet so peculiar.

His gaze fell on the letter opener. By accident she had learnt more about his life from the contents of that letter than anywhere.

Scene 3:

All this time light was receding from the room.

“I should explain why I spend so much time here”, said the silhouette. Leaves moved like shadows across her eyes.

A solid platinum diamond eternity ring by Tiffany & Co., dating to the 1990s. This is a particularly impressive and substantial interpretation of a classic design. Fifteen large round brilliant-cut diamonds are individually secured in a beautifully executed shared-prong setting, allowing maximum exposure to light while maintaining an elegant, uninterrupted circle of brilliance. Each diamond weighs approximately 0.38 carats, giving the ring an impressive total diamond weight of approximately 5.7 carats.

The diamonds are approximately VVS clarity and F/G colour, with excellent brightness and presence. A beautifully made ring set with exceptionally fine diamonds, as one would expect from Tiffany & Co.

The eternity band has long been associated with enduring love and commitment, its continuous circle of gemstones symbolising a bond without beginning or end. Its origins can be traced to ancient Egyptian symbolism, particularly the Ouroboros, a serpent devouring its own tail, representing the perpetual cycle of life. The modern diamond eternity ring, however, did not become widely popular until the 1960s, when diamond merchants, most notably De Beers, began actively promoting the design.

Tiffany & Co. has played an important role in the history of American bridal jewellery, most famously with the introduction of the celebrated Tiffany Setting in 1886. The house’s diamond eternity bands continue this tradition, combining exceptional craftsmanship with an appreciation for the beauty of carefully proportioned diamonds.

This particular example has a wonderful presence on the finger, with the generous size of the diamonds giving the ring considerable character without compromising its classical design. Crafted in platinum, it is equally suited to being worn as a wedding or anniversary ring, or simply enjoyed as an exceptional piece of diamond jewellery in its own right.

The ring is fully marked and bears its own unique serial number. It is a US finger size 6.5 and cannot be resized, so the fit will need to be correct. It comes complete with its original Tiffany & Co. presentation box and outer blue box. This is a particularly large size diamond eternity, the likes of which you cannot order online. This size has to be bought in store, and the MSRP today for a ring like this is significant.

Made in America, circa 1990s.
