A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

A sterling silver and ten carat rose gold Colt M1911 charm, or pendant, in holster. A very fun and wonderfully made piece of jewellery that is as fun to play with as it is to wear! The belt holster is made with such great attention to detail, even down to the hand tooling applied to the silver and gold to make it feel like a real tooled piece of leather.  The grip and the front of the holster are made from a applied piece of solid ten carat rose, or pink gold. Both the lower part of the holster and the grip of the gun are set with a small red coloured crystal set into them.

The gun holstered in the pendant is a Colt M1911 hand gun. Designed by John Browning in the 1890s, the M1911 was introduced as a semi-automatic pistol that replaced the revolvers of the time. During World War II, the U.S. government purchased approximately 1.9 million M1911s to arm its military forces. While Colt was responsible for fulfilling an order of 400,000 units, other manufacturers like Remington Rand produced up to 900,000.

The M1911's widespread use and popularity during the war is why Colt is the name most associated with this iconic pistol. Today, Colt remains a top manufacturer of high-quality 1911 models. The M1911's immense popularity as a frontline sidearm during WWII is a key reason it is considered one of the best 1911 pistols available. In fact, the government canceled post-war production contracts, deciding it was more cost-effective to rebuild existing M1911s than to procure additional new ones.

The piece can be added to a chain, or leather, and worn as a pendant. The Colt can be drawn from the revolver, and be completely taken out.  There is a small rail that it runs on, and needs to be angled to separate, giving a slight level of protection from jumping out and losing it.

There have been a few of these types of pendants made over the years.  They vary greatly in quality, and in year of production.  This is an earlier version, and super quality. The back of the holster is marked both "Sterling" and "10K". If you're looking for a great piece of American Western history in jewellery, this will scratch an itch. If you need a silver chain to put it on, let us know and we can arrange to add one.

Made in America, circa 1950's.
