This is an unusual, and rare watch made exclusively forr the American market. From a design perspective it is a very classic OP model; Oyster case, smooth bezel and screw down crown and case back. The dial is also a classic configuration of stick markers with black printing on a champagne coloured base. It is very beautiful in the meta that was hard to capture on camera.

The base of the dial is stamped "T Swiss T" at the six o'clock position, meaning that it contains tritium luminous material. This material replaced the highly dangerous, and radioactive Radium in 1963, making this one of the first Tritium examples produced.. Just like radium, tritium was also radioactive; however, it came with a much lower level of radiation and a much shorter half-life. While tritium was exponentially safer than radium, it only had a half-life of twelve years. This meant that after just a few decades, only a tiny fraction of the initial luminescence would remain. Additionally, as tritium ages, the color changes, which creates often beautiful, and highly sought after patinas on the luminous markers on these older Rolex watches. Tritium was far from perfect, which lead Rolex to search for a better alternative, which happened in 1998 with the introduction of Luminova. The Tritium in this case is all original to the dial, is in perfect condition. The color is a very beautiful warm latté color, and the same for the hands. All of which respond the same under ultra violet light.

The watch is powered by a Rolex, Swiss made, twenty seven jewel automatic calibre 2035 movement. The 1135 caliber is a self-winding, 28-jewel movement introduced in mid-1950's primarily used in women's and mid-size watches like the Oyster Perpetual. It is a robust, high-beat movements that received chronometer certification from the COSC.

The watch is fitted to navy, hand stitched alligator watch band. That can be changed easily, of so desired. The watch was made circa 1976 with serial number 1,341,XXX. The watch is in original condition, showing only very light signs of polishing to sides of the case. The case is very strong, with thick lugs and free from any damage. The Swiss fourteen carat squirrel hallmark is still crisp, clear and unpolished on the rear of the lug. The dial is all original and not refinished, and is in excellent condition overall.

The Oyster Perpetual is the classic Rolex watch. A model that has seen quite the resurgence in recent years with all of the new colour dials. This is a rare, unusual size classic version that will suit ost wrist sizes, and work as well with smart attire as it would with jeans and a t-shirt. A true every day watch. For a watch celebrating its fortieth birthday this year, iti looks as relevant and conteporary as any in the line today.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0689/2617/files/0002-1_478cc1a1-753b-4248-84d9-6bd31144ddd6.jpg?v=1779056185
