A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

This Rolex Submariner 1680, with original punched Rolex Warranty paper work, is a stunning find.  This watch could be considered the most iconic, and certainly the most recognizable watch in the Rolex stable.  Since its inception into the Rolex line up in 1953 this watch has been worn and loved by deep sea divers, military, movie stars and today's watch collectors.  This version marked the second major change to the introduction of the Rolex Submariner with date function.  The first model launched in 1967 and is most easily distinguished by the type "Submariner" on the dial printed in red.  The model shown above, the second real change, sees the red print disappear in favor of an all white printed dial introduced in  1976-77. This example has the Mark I dial with closed 6's in the depth rating, and the 'L' in Rolex perfectly centered under the coronet.   The model was soon upgraded to the 16800,  which saw the introduction of a sapphire crystal leaving this model with a fairly short production run of between 1976/7-1979; however, some later serial numbers do show up.  Such is the Rolex way!  The dial and  perfectly matched hands are in excellent condition with no flaws and a pleasing, very light, ivory patina to the lume.  The case condition is also very good with no major wear, having been very lightly polished over the years, but the case lines remain very sharp and thick.  The correct fat font bezel insert is in tact and starting to show a beautiful dark charcoal fade, with no scratches of pit marks.  The watch is fitted with  an earlier, post 1973, folded link Rolex Submariner Patented diver extension bracelet with flip lock.  A 9315 model, with 380 end pieces.  The bracelet's excellent condition also adds to the value of this watch, as these bracelets fit the mid '70's Red and Double Red models, as well as being made through to the late 1970's.  The case is fully stamped inside and out with the model number 1680 on the case back, and between the lugs.  The serial number of the watch is a 5.6 million dating it to mid 1978.  The punched paper work matches, and has the original 1680 Rolex case back sticker attached to it. The correct green plastic Submariner hang tag accompanies the set.  The watch is powered by the Rolex automatic 1570 movement in excellent condition and keeping perfect time.  A rare chance to own a complete and very clean iconic and collectible time piece.
