A fourteen carat yellow gold Cartier, or bedside clock. This is a beautiful, and very rare, Art Deco square easel back clock from perhaps one of the world's best luxury clock makers, Cartier. When one thinks of Art Deco clocks from Cartier, this is very much what comes to mind. Superb quality. The gold work is exceptional with a very Art Deco, radiant, sunburst finish to the front. A beautiful white dial with stylised gold Arabic numerals and the large solid gold sword hands. The frame of the clock too is this gorgeous flat bezel with gorgeous coin edging around the outside.

The clock is powered by a Swiss made Concord fifteen jewel, unadjusted caliber 445 movement. Cartier had a long relationship with Concord who made a large number of watch and clock movements for the luxury retailer. The movement has the import stamps for Concord of 'CXC' which highlights the fact this clock was imported into the US. It makes sense as well since this is a piece made for the American Cartier market. Instead of being solid eighteen carat gold, the front is fourteen carat gold. There are no French marks to the gold, but it has been tested and is indeed solid fourteen carat. There are the all important unique Cartier stamped numbers into the brass back plate.

The dial is fully original, and not refinished, as is very often the case with clocks from this period. There are a couple of scratches to the dial, and some discolouration, but to the eye they are very small, and not noticeable. They do not distract from the overall beauty of this charming little clock. It will make for the perfect addition to any bedside table, desk, or even shelf. It is not the largest piece, measuring in at three inches square, which is also part of its charm. Stunning, and all original, it is a wonderful page in the history book of Cartier's luxury timepieces.
