A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

A 1:20 scale model of a Range Rover with the original box. This is one of the thirty eight crystal cars made by French glass maker; Daum.  This particular one was made for Range Rover to be sold as a piece via their sales channels.  This marked a change in direction from existing models made by Daum, and was subsequently branded in the Kan International packaging.  Kan International was a Daum wholesale company, and after purchase from Daum, they repackaged the cars to sell on to the retail locations.

On the packaging is the artist name; Claude Nicolas.  This was another departure for Daum.  The vast majority of cars produced had been designed by artist Xavier Froissart.  Claude Nicolas, a graduate from the L'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, de Paris, worked with luxury fashion house Christian Dior as well as les Galleries Lafayette and designer André Courréges, and iconic glassware company Lalique.

The Range Rover itself is an icon of design. Conceived in the late 1950's, it came into production in 1969 developed by George Bashford and Spen King for the Rover Company.  It became the first car to ever be exhibited in the Louvre in 1970, regarded as an "exemplary work of industrial design".  Still being made today, it remains as the benchmark for the SUV market.

The model is the first execution, four door version, introduced in 1981.  This marked the biggest change the vehicle had undergone in its life span.  This model broke away from the initial two door body introduced at its conception.  This model ran until 1994 when the second execution was introduced.

This example is fully hand signed, in perfect condition, and comes with the original box.  These models are believed to have been made as limited edition run of around six hundred pieces circa 1990.  However, it is believed that only approximately three hundred were ever actually made.
