A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

unmistakably familiar in feeling yet so peculiar.

His gaze fell on the letter opener. By accident she had learnt more about his life from the contents of that letter than anywhere.

All this time light was receding from the room.

“I should explain why I spend so much time here”, said the silhouette. Leaves moved like shadows across her eyes.

A solid eighteen carat yellow gold bracelet. This gorgeous and superb quality bracelet will appeal to all. Such is the classic design, simplicity and refinement, even the most discerning eye will gravitate toward this bracelet. It is constructed of the classic curb, 'Cuban' style link, but in this case hollow. They are thick, 5mm high, and quite wide across measuring 10mm across.

The Cuban link bracelet traces its origins to the classic curb chain, a form that appeared in 19th century watch chains and equestrian jewellery. Defined by flattened, interlocking links that sit smoothly against the wrist, the design was valued for both strength and clean visual rhythm. Early examples were often produced in Europe, particularly Italy, where skilled workshops refined heavier gauges and precise hand-finished construction during the mid-20th century.

By the late 1970s and 1980s, jewellers in Miami reinterpreted the traditional curb link into a denser, more sculptural form. Tighter spacing, substantial weight, and highly polished surfaces gave rise to what became known as the Cuban link. The bracelet carried both technical refinement and cultural significance, moving from regional craft into a global symbol of bold gold jewellery.

What endures is its balance of engineering and presence. A well-made Cuban link drapes fluidly while maintaining structural integrity, with each link carefully soldered and finished. Rooted in historical chain making yet unmistakably modern in character, it remains one of the most recognisable forms in vintage gold jewellery.

The bracelet features a beautifully made tongue clasp that is designed into the overall look of the bracelet. Simply to use, secure and beautiful in its own right with the addition of one hook safety clasp.  The clasp is marked "750" for eighteen carat yellow gold, and a makers mark, for that appears to have been made in Italy pre-1967. The purity of the gold gives the bracelet a beautiful colour, and the finish to the links is soft, not a high shine with over sixty years of careful wear.

This is a spectacular quality bracelet, weighing nearly fifty four grams. It is long at 7.75 inches in length, so a very good length that will comfortably fit most every wrist size. While it is not heavy, and uncomfortable to wear, it still weighs 34.5 grams. Links can be removed if so desired. Simply request us to do so upon purchase and we will have it done at no extra charge.

Made in Italy, circa 1960's.
