The ring looks like it was just mined straight from the ground.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFirst introduced in 1919, the Mexican Dos Pesos is the smallest denomination in the celebrated series of twentieth-century Mexican gold coinage. Compact in scale but rich in national symbolism, the coin was struck by the Casa de Moneda de México, the Mexican Mint, an institution founded in 1535 and the oldest mint in the Americas.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe obverse carries Mexico’s national emblem, the eagle with a serpent in its beak perched upon a cactus, encircled by the words\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The reverse is characteristically restrained, with the denomination DOS PESOS surrounded by a wreath and the date below. Measuring approximately 13mm in diameter, something so diminutive a surprising weight and presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe coin was minted in 1945, and is a date that is particularly associated with the Dos Pesos. Although original production of the denomination had largely ceased by the middle of the century, the Mexican Mint subsequently produced official restrikes carrying the 1945 date to satisfy international demand for Mexican gold. As a result, a coin marked 1945 cannot necessarily be assumed to have been physically struck in that year. These later pieces were nevertheless produced by the Mexican Mint to the same specifications and fineness as the earlier circulating coins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eToday, the Dos Pesos lends itself particularly well to jewelry. Its small size, warm 21.6-carat gold alloy and immediately recognizable imagery allow it to sit comfortably within a ring, pendant or bracelet without overwhelming the design. The 1945 Dos Pesos is both a piece of Mexican monetary history and a wonderfully understated use of gold, carrying centuries of national symbolism within a coin barely larger than a fingernail.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe piece is in excellent condition.  It is hallmarked for \"14k\" for fourteen carat gold in the inside of the shank along with a makers mark. The maker is unknown. \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe current finger size is 7.5, but can be sized without issue as there is space at the back.
