A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

A solid fourteen carat yellow gold chain featuring a garnet set pendant.  This is a beautiful piece of antique jewellery.  The piece consists of a fourteen carat gold beautiful link antique chain with a stunning hand made pendant that is set with a series of faceted cut pieces of garnet.  The back of the pendant is all open work to allow light to pass through this elegant and eye catching pendant and to let the natural fire of the antique garnet glow.

The garnet is a remarkably durable gemstone, with remnants of garnet jewelry dating back to the Bronze Age. Ancient Egyptians used garnets as inlays in their jewelry and carvings as early as 3100 BC, even referring to it as a symbol of life. Garnets remained immensely popular with the Romans in the third and fourth centuries.

This gemstone was prized for its protective powers, used as a talisman by warriors going into battle and those seeking to ward off pestilence and plague. Some ancient healers and wise men even placed garnets directly in wounds, praising their healing properties.

Garnet jewelry has been a fixture throughout the ages, often used as signet rings in ancient Rome and favored by the nobility in the Middle Ages. The Victorians further popularized garnets, creating some of the era's loveliest garnet jewelry that mimicked the pomegranate with clusters of tiny red gems.

The piece is in perfect condition.  It is hallmarked for "14k" gold at the top of the loop attaching it to the chain.  The stunning antique chain has been tested for fourteen carat gold.  The total chain length is just over sixteen inches long.  The pendant itself is quite a statement  piece in itself at two inches long to the top of the bale and nearly an inch across at its widest.

An eye catching piece of period jewellery, expertly made and presented in superb condition.  Made in America, circa 1870's.
