The clock is sterling silver and vitreous enamel, with every side of the cube displaying the correct design for a real dice.  The dial is very beautifully set in a diamond shape in the center of the number four.  It is vermeil with enamel painted Roman numerals exquisitely proportioned to the dial, and the size of the clock.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSmall, classically design, blue steel hands clearly pick out the time.  The most marvelous piece to an already superb clock is what is hidden in the inside door that allows the Swiss made mechanical movement to be wound.  Housed inside the back of the case back via a bayonet style fitting, is a collapsable cup that holds three, handmade, dice.  The three dice can be used to play the popular gambling game of Cee Lo dice, or any other that involves three dice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bottom of the collapsable cup is engraved J. E. Caldwell \u0026amp; Co.  James Emmot Caldwell was an American jeweller who founded his own store in Philadelphia in 1839. The company went from strength to strength, and even after his death in 1881, the company continued to flourish. This part of America, from 1852, became the heartland of the American silver manufacturing industry. The 1887 Meriden Britannia catalog had over four hundred pages of items being offered. This included no less than twelve pages of barware. Meriden became known as \"Silver City\" and by the end of the 20th Century had sales of over $2.5 million a year. During the \"Roaring\" and supposedly dry! twenties\" the International silver Company had offices located in Canada, England and across the US. They began to move away from traditional designs and employed designers like Rhode and Guild to come up with pieces that reflected the modern world emerging around them.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis piece is in the original, unrestored silver plated finish. The decree was intended to create Paris’ most beautiful street and also included a requirement that a monumental column be raised in the centre of the square following the model of Trajan’s Column in Rome. The Paris column was to be built from the bronze of the canons confiscated during the battle of Austerlitz.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe column was sculpted by Etienne Bergeret and was originally surmounted by a statue of Napoleon in Roman dress by Antoine-Denis Chaudet.  At each change of political regime, the statue which sits on top of the column was replaced by another one. Thus, the first statue of Napoleon depicted him dressed as a Roman emperor, holding in his left hand the terrestrial globe topped with a winged-Victory. This statue was briefly replaced by that of King Henri IV on April 3rd 1814 and then, under the reign of Louis XVIII by a fleur-de-lis. On 28th July 1833, under the July Monarchy, the top of the column hosted a statue depicting Napoleon as “Petit Caporal” (dressed with a frock-coat and wearing a cocked-hat), sculpted by Charles Emile Seurre. On 4th November 1863, by order of Napoleon III, a statue similar to the first one, with Napoleon dressed as Caesar and wearing a laurel wreath, found its way to the top of the column. The former statue of Napoleon as “Petit Caporal” was transferred to the main courtyard of the Hôtel des Invalides where it still stands today.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is an exceptional piece
