A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

unmistakably familiar in feeling yet so peculiar.

His gaze fell on the letter opener. By accident she had learnt more about his life from the contents of that letter than anywhere.

A stainless steel and eighteen carat yellow gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual. Perhaps the most clean, simple and good looking of the smallest watch in the line up in the Rolex collection. A late 1980’s version, so, this features a sapphire crystal, which makes these just a little more durable, and water resistant than their earlier plastic/acrylic siblings. This is a watch that is easy to love.  In the current advent of the colourful OP range from Rolex, this is the OG of the OP!  The classic fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet and no date window make for the ultimate in pared down, clean Rolex in this sized case.  Basically it will work with anything, at any time.

The dial colour is the classic gold, or champagne colour, sunburst dial.  These dials are very eye catching, and really play with the light due to the way they are finished.  The luminous material used on the dial is tritium here that was used up until the end of the 1990’s.  Hence the “T Swiss T” marking at the base of the dial.  It is all original and remains untouched, and in excellent condition featuring all lume plots intact that have remained very close to their factory white colour.  This will continue to evolve over time, and they will become even more attractive.  Part of the beauty of tritium.

The serif printing of the text and indices ring, which run along the edge of the dial is all in black, which sits well with the dial background, and are complemented by the classic shaped applied eighteen carat yellow gold stick markers. The gold baton hands are fitted and also contain the original luminous material, which matches the plots perfectly, and respond the same under ultraviolet light.

The case is in excellent condition throughout, and appears to be unpolished.  This is a “holes” case, meaning that the lug holes are drilled and exposed from the sides of the case. The original Jubilee link bracelet is in excellent condition throughout with little sag, or heavy scratching to the deployant buckle.  This watch really is a fine example of clean and classic Rolex aesthetics all bundled up in a beautiful small package.

The watch comes with its original Rolex paperwork and hang tag with the correct serial number printed onto it. There is no box present. The service history is unknown, but the watch is keeping good time, and comes with a one year mechanical warranty.
