A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

Only by whirling on his heel could he hope to comprehend
the panorama.

Scene 2:

He remained.Trapped in that enormous room,
unmistakably familiar in feeling yet so peculiar.

His gaze fell on the letter opener. By accident she had learnt more about his life from the contents of that letter than anywhere.

All this time light was receding from the room.

“I should explain why I spend so much time here”, said the silhouette. Leaves moved like shadows across her eyes.

A solid fourteen carat yellow curb link bracelet.  This is a rare multi link curb bracelet with a profile.  The colour to the vintage gold is beautiful and rich.  The bracelet is closed through a classic tongue clasp with a safety catch on the side. This is a very thick and heavy bracelet that is also long in length. It has the appearance of a classic curb link bracelet, but this is a bracelet on steroids!

There are a series of marks on the top side of the tongue of the clasp, as can be seen in the detail image. One for a maker and one for the carat of the gold and a Tiffany & Co; retail stamp. It is American made, and dates to the 1970's. The bracelet measures just over eight and a half inches long, and is a substantial weight of over one hundred and thirty seven grams, and is 7.2mm thick.

Established in New York in 1958, SUCCO was the registered mark of Superior Chain Co., Inc., a manufacturer best known for its finely made gold and silver chains, bracelets, and related jewelry. The company’s work reflected the precision and quality typical of postwar American jewelry production, where small specialist firms supplied both independent retailers and major houses.

SUCCO’s pieces often combined technical refinement with understated design. Heavy gauge links, secure clasps, and clean profiles in both precious metals and mixed materials. Period examples include gold and platinum chains, key loops, and bracelets, with occasional sterling and gold combinations showing the brand’s capability in multi-metal construction.

Though little is recorded about the firm’s later years, SUCCO’s reputation for quality was such that they produced components and finished articles for leading American jewelers, including Tiffany & Co., during the mid-20th century. The trademark was first used in 1958 and formally registered in 1959, remaining active until its closing in 2000. Today, SUCCO-marked pieces stand as quietly crafted examples of New York jewelry manufacturing at its mid-century peak.

Overall, an unbelievably large, long and heavy intricate gold bracelet retailed by the main name in American luxury jewellery. With gold at the prices seen in 2025 it is highly unlikely that a bracelet like this is going to be produced today.
