A Day
Observed

A story presented by

Scene 1:
‘Morning’

It was a bright cold day with glassy surfaces that looked hard.
Into the square frame he stood as if in a dream.

What emerged was precisely what he expected to find: a reflection of memory images. Contemplating his face in the photo frame he waited.

By the steady hands of his watch, he listened to time. Every day for the past sixteen days he saw her. Silver lingered in the crease of
an open book.

So absorbed in his thoughts
he hardly saw the platinum catch-all, the key, or the revelation locked inside those lapis lazuli cufflinks tossed unmistakably in cold blue.

A wide, solid fourteen carat yellow gold band. This is an example of a very traditional wedding ring, but much thicker in gauge, and with a very romantic twist. Engraved throughout the band are diamond set hearts with cupid's arrow passing through them. It could be for either men, or women. It has a lovely patina to the metal since it is now approximately seventy five years old.

Cupid traces his origins back to classical antiquity, where he first appeared in Greek mythology as Eros, the embodiment of desire and creative force. Early depictions show a powerful, often solemn figure tied to primordial love and cosmic balance. By the Hellenistic and later Roman periods, Eros evolved into Cupid, the winged youth recognised today, armed with bow and arrows said to inspire either devotion or indifference. Roman poets such as Ovid helped shape this enduring image, blending mythology with themes of romance, mischief and fate.

During the Renaissance, Cupid became a central motif in European art and decorative design. Goldsmiths, engravers and enamellers adopted the figure as a symbol of courtly love, frequently incorporating cherubs into jewellery, watch cases and objets d’art. The softened, playful form seen in eighteenth and nineteenth century pieces reflects this revival of classical imagery, where mythological symbolism served both as ornament and as coded language between giver and wearer.

Today, Cupid remains one of the most recognisable allegorical figures in design history. Whether rendered in miniature on a locket or engraved across a dial, the motif carries layers of meaning that extend beyond romance alone, speaking to heritage, storytelling and the long tradition of classical symbolism within fine craftsmanship.

The shape has a genuine bombe to it.  This can be worn as just a simple gold band, or as a more traditional wedding band. The band is set with seven single cut diamonds approximately .015 carats in weight and a G/H colour. The ring is hallmarked inside with 14K and the makers mark of H.C. Circa 1900's. There is light wear to the gold overall.

The ring size is a 7.5 US and weighs over a nine and a half grams.  This ring could be sized, but we would recommend this fits.
